Apple sauce for your 6- 9 months old babies

With your doctor's consent cooked apples may be given to your babies as one of his/her very first supplementary foods. Apples are rarely allergic, rich in fibre and aids digestion and are easily available throughout the year.
These various ways in which you can prepare a basic apple puree for your baby
Bake an apple: By washing it , removing the core , wrapping it in Aluminium foil and placing it in a oven pre- heated to 350 F or 180 c for around15-20 minutes/till tender. Then just puree/mash it, adding little breast milk/formula milk if the texture is too thick.
Steam: cubes of apple until tender , then either mash/puree as above.
Simmer : apple cubes in a very little water till tender and then mash/puree and use.

Recipe for Gripe water for colicky babies

This recipe is free of alcohol and essential oils, and baking soda.This recipe helped me a lot with my girl. She was very colicky. The Woodward's Gripe Water included Alcohol, Dill seed, essential oils, baking soda, and sucrose. The dill is replaced by fennel, Corn Syrup replaces the sucrose. Ginger and peppermint are added to further help with flatulence. Do not substitute sucrose with honey. If you want, you may substitute it with sugar cane jaggery.

Ingredients

1. Fennel Seed: 1 teaspoon

2. Peeled Ginger: ¼ Inch

3. Corn Syrup: 1 Tablespoon.

4. Fresh Peppermint leaves: 2

5. Water: 4 Cups

Method

1. Mix all ingredients in a heavy bottom pot. Bring it to a boil. Cover. Reduce heat. Simmer for 20 minutes.

2. Strain. Let it cool to room temperature. Keep it refrigerated.

3. After 24 hours, brew a new batch and throw out the old batch.

Healthy and age old Ragi Porridge for your babies

Ragi or Millet is a very good source of Protein, vitamins and minerals which is very essential for the infant. Ragi porridge can be made with salt or sugar according to the baby's taste requiremets . Ragi is a very good source of calcium. so giving ragi porridge or ragi kanji will enhance the bone and teeth development of your young ones.
Ingredients
Sprouted Ragi -2 Table spoons
Ghee -1 Table spoonSugar/ salt
Method
1. For sprouting: Soak Ragi for 6 hours and drain the water. Put it in a muslin cloth and leave it aside for 10 hours or Put the soaked ragi in an air tight box and leave it for 10 hours for sprouting
2. Grind the sprouted ragi into a paste and strain it
.3. To the strained ragi milk add sugar or salt to taste and heat.
4. Stir it continuously till it becomes paste5. Either ghee or milk can be added
Ragi porridge can be given twice a day to infant baby.

Banana Smoothie for infants of 5-6 months of age

Here we have given one of the weaning fruit recipe that we used for our kids when we started to wean them when they were babies. They will just love it. Bananas are a very baby friendly fruit and one of the very few that babies can eat raw. Bananas when combined with curds and orange juice in this velvety concoction provide your baby with energy, carbohydrates, iron, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin C.
Ingredients :
1/2 cup banana, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh curds
2 tablespoons orange juice
Method:
In a blender blend the above ingredients and thus the tasty banana smoothie is ready for your baby. Prepare freshly and feed them. Do not store for a long time , which is not advisable in case of any baby foods

We are sure most of you will be having babies at home or planning for one in near future. All the best whatever the case maybe(ha ha ha). We thought we share whatever we learnt from family(grammys', moms) and friends. We also got registered to some parenting sites. They will help you a lot.

In US, moms mostly use kidco food processors for processing baby food. I use the cuisinart small food processor. Indian moms can do well with our usual mixie.
